Summer romance

For you Mister on the bus, on the corner, passing by, don't think the frequent glances of my surroundings are subtle advances - they're not. I am still savouring this breathtaking view that is DC. I am fondling her with my eyes. Complimenting her beauty with gasping stares. I am carassing her like a new lover learning every inch, crack, and scar. Kissing her with wandering feet. Probing her with tantilizing questions. Inhaling her sweet scents as if I were a hounddog searching for her treasure. Drenched in sweat we tango in a summer romance that I just can't tear away from.

Oh yea I am having an affair with my nation's capital city.

Aimless wandering

After being stood up by the group I was to run with, I decided to take a casual stroll along the bus route.( and by that I mean I had just missed two consecutive buses that trailed each other so closely I wondered why there were two. )

I strolled along so the sister of a high school classmate- that was cool.  Continued walking. Being "lost" counts as exercise for the record. I saw a bus from the distance and thought to myself,' I don't catch the 36, but the 34.' Not surprised by this typical blunder, I can indeed catch the 36 b/c it goes about the same way. No longer several block behind me, the bus is at my backside. I look the driver in the eye j/k I was re-reading the bus route info( but for the sake of dramatics lol).

The light was red and I was determined to make it across the street before he. Green light! I sprint across the walkway just as the walking man symbol appears. Off I go, emerging on the opposite side of the street - victorious for having beat the bus to the other side. Regrettably I watched the bus turn the corner. Almost if to sneer and laugh b/c it would be almost an hour for the next 30 minute interval bus to arrive.

Well I sure got my excercise : )

Hmmmm

If the wind blows and a strong smell of seafood. There better be a guy vending raw fish on the street. This is ridiculous!

Life in the Hose

You know how I know this is a male cat? He needs me to hover over him while he eats. Occasionally, between loud slurp he comes over to nuzzle on me. Then when he's done ( or rather thinks he's done but really justs wander away and comes back when he wants more), he doesn't say a word

Laina in New York

There was this place ( and I'm sure there are more) and one can sit in public with air conditioning, chairs and tables. A place to sit indoors. I enjoyed the break that is all.

Step up your game Atlanta!

Laina in New York

Salt water spraying in my face as the sea wind whips through my hair. The faint scent of sea water wafts around us ferry riders. Passing Lady Liberty herself. What a way to enjoy New York...yea I could so consider be a sailor lol

Political Food for Thought

NYT: Senators Push Deficit-Reduction

NY Times article on Debt Ceiling Talks

Comment I found noteworthy:

eatre of the absurd. Take the House Republicans and hook them up to a lie detector test; the kind that buzzes you with a jolt of electricity if you lie and the jolts increase with each lie. Ask each of them: What is your primary goal for the next 2, 5 and 10 years?" "Are you willing to lose your seat in the House if that is the result of passing a bill that cuts entitlements?" and "Will you continue to insist on keeping the Bush tax cuts for the highest income brackets and maintaining corporate subsidies even if it is proven, without any doubt, that those tax cuts and subsidies do nothing to create jobs and will not help resurrect the economy?" Since none of them will answer truthfully by saying "regain and maintain power," "no" and "yes," we can watch them electrocute

Just Sayin'

Small children on a bus packed to the brim with people tired from a long day @ work, frustrated because the bus is so packed that it cannot for capacity's sake take on more people, should not sing, at the top of their lungs, the " Go Diego!" Song.

Another Ahh Ha moment

Amid this persistant feeling of frustration stemmed from lack of knowledge about this vast city. Knowing which bus to catch, but not knowing which direction to catch it. Knowing which bus to catch, but unsure of which street the stop is on. Knowing which station to be at, but not neccesarily knowing to transfer, which line to transfer to, when to get off, how long to be on the train for, and a general sense of just plain not knowing.

Today, while waiting for the G2 » Georgetown, I saw several bus approaching at the intersection ( 7th & P) where my bus was approaching. All at the anticipated 5:44, at which my bus read to arrive. Frantically I pondering running through oncoming traffic, a tactic that has proved useful in the past, but with patience that only a a lost tourist can obtain through numerous scenarios of being lost in the middle of "nowhere," I read each bus's destination, realizing none of them read Georgetown. Bus 1 passes through the intersection East of me, it didn't even say G2( that was easy) . Bus 2 was fast approaching. "G2" shone brightly in red flourescent lights. "Wait! What did the destination say?," Oh No! The bus stop is across the street, the bus is loading and the light is green for traffic against me. Hmmmm... I wait exhausted... if that's my bus I'll wait for the next.

Oh what luck? That wasn't my bus!

I am beginning to think I can do this! New York here I come!!!

Just saying...

Walking most of the way then running the last block does not get one to a destination faster...

Oh ok

I say to the girl ahead of me walking in the cream-colored, dress with white cardigan.
" There's a spider on you back, its small" in a very matter of fact manner."
" oh my gosh!! Where?!?! Ah! Ah!"
" I'll eat it." says the homeless man on the bench watching the spectacle.

Yesterday's update - b/c who really talks about the present

So I ask of him, as I wander out of Longsworth House Building lost.  "I am looking for a wall lined with benches."
He stares at me blankly. "Come again"
" they told me they were outside on they wall lined with benches."
Again he stares at me curiously. "A wall lined with what?!"
I repeat " bench"
LIGHT BULB MOMENT
"You thought I said... oh noo I mean benches, she's sitting down"
Security gurad " I haven't seen that in DC."
"Really?!" I say, " I expect to see a whole lot of eveything"

I glad that on a daily basis, my mispoken words, phrases, and anecdotes make somebodies day.

Embarrasing thoughts

Upon boarding the Metro this beautiful Thursday morning, I sit next to a rather large-built man. With hisrecording studio-sized headphones on, I think to myself " gosh his music is loud." I sit down anyway. Hmmm lil Wayne. Okay. I watch him play Angry Bird( Rio edition) on his iPad, when I suddenly realize the music is coming from the petite girl behind us with miniscule-sized headphone. Oh well what stays in my head....

Life without my ipod

Nodding your head to music no one can hear, is only accepted when headphobes are worn. Don't even think about lipsyncing.

DWA Driving with Alaina - its an experience like the Beyonce experience except with the dancing, stage, and adoring fans

What not to do while driving on a country road:

Please remember when driving on a country road that people in the other car can see you. So if you are super excited about your new CD actually playing in your car, its best to keep the flamboyant dancing to a minimum. But if your dancing attracts the attention of a trucker nearby try not to look completely taken by surprise and burst in hysterical smiling. This smile may makev said white, country truck drivers hauling a tree shredder to think that you are flirting with them. And if you speed up and go around them, they may think you are chasing them. And if you are still dancing( more like flaying your arms and lipsyncing words you don't know, with sunglasses that make you genuinely feel like a Beyoncé diva) then the truckerS( yea there are two) may think you are still flirting. And if by mistake you leave your car in neutral so while pulling off it sounds like you're revving your engine DO NOT wave "Bye!" This tactic might make said driver honk furiously for your attention as you speed along said country road. "Wait you mean the speed limit is not 80?" Well there is a white Ford truck following me honking for me, I imagine saying to the polic officer and I dip and dodge cars along this country road on an otherwise gorgeous Tuesday morning( like the store lol- back to the story).
Red lights have never been my friend, but especially not today because the last light we stopped at ... they were there. What do you mean we are going through a town with a speed limit of 45mph, nope this won't do. And as I turn around looking for my hopeless truckers chasing some chocolate in a navy blue Jetta, they pass me in a right turning lane.

Hi Ho Hi ho its off to work I go. Hypothetically if this had been me, and not just a friendly word of advice.

When driving on the highway of life...

I will catch up with you Mrs. Grey Lexus. And not for you money, your car or your expressedly-stylish clothes( ok maybe my want that on my own Accord(Honda...get it nevermind)) but for your success.

Oh you want to go 70mph I can do that oh you mean we are neck to neck. Approaching 80mph that's ok, not my pace ( sure! I drive a Turbo), but I'll recede.

In the highway of life I'll catch up with you Mrs. Grey Lexus.

I know I've said it before, but....

Where did all the gentlemen go? 'Cause I'm tired of standing on this hot, packed Metro!

Where did all the gentlemen go?
I have been fortunate enough to have guys give up their seat so that I may sit down. But maybe I just have that look about me that says "respect me." ( Or maybe I just look that tired) either way.

Society is far less mannerable today. There may always be the argument of whether guys should still be opening doors, pulling out chairs, (carrying my bag if its heavy) and other gentlemen-like gestures if women are so I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T.D

I wouldn't call myself old fashioned, but I'll cook for my man, but he's cleaning. Heck I've played housewife before( another time, another story). And it was an equal partnership of shard responsibilities.

That's all I ask. I am already a lady, I just need a gentlemen

Life lesson

I have this theory that people need to talk things out. So I am listening, sorry if I sound disinterested.

Philip: thats called friendship

oh ok

Rainstorms?

And rain fell upon the city with sheets of force that blanketed the city. Like cleasing water bringing forth new life.

Sometimes...

Sometimes you have to take the headphones off and listen to the world around you. Today I listened to a Mom explain to her son why the saxophonist outside was playing for money...

Mid day car surprize

Upon arriving at my car this afternoon, I found a small bird intertwined in the eye tow of my car. Its mangled body hung limp between the folds underneath my car hood. How did this tragedy occur? Perhaps as I haphazardly sped along the country roads before the sun rose. Maybe the bird misguidedly flew in the metallic blue sheaths of my car.

Regardless of its occurance I mourn the loss of the beautiful melody of a tiny bird's song.

Signs of life

...and the sign said: WARNING: the Consumption of alcohol may cause pregnancy

Random Laina Nuggets

Last night I had something in my eye ( not uncommon my eye is a magnet for foreign objects). It was bothersome. I blinked. I rotated my eye clockwise and counter-clockwise to rid my eye of this nusaince.

And I'm thinking whatever this bugger was it had to be big. My eyes water ( whether in frustration or irritated tear glands I don't know. Finally I go to the bathroom, grab some tissue and am determine to fish this thing out my eye. I open my eye wide open in the bathroom mirror looking for this object - I don't see it. Suddenly there it is - an eyelash. I drag the tissue across my eye until I fish out the eyelash. On the tissue it looked so small, so thin, and so frail, thatt its comical how much trouble it caused.

Its funny how some things seem so big at the moment, but are small in perspective of something greater or in retrospect.
